Online Identity & Design Portfolio Website

There are many steps to consider when creating your own website. The first step is thinking about how to incorporate your personality and interests into your site. Creating a logo is the second step. The logo should symbolize and represent your brand identity. Think about who you are as a designer. Being able to share your work is the fourth step. Sharing your work can include: a logo, business cards, and a website that depicts your work. Your design portfolio website should include a contact information page. Using a form is the easiest way to display a contact page. Networking is the sixth step. Share your work and meeting with new people through organizations and or volunteer work is one way to network. The seventh step is observing how others view your website. Paying attention to design trends is very important. You may need to make changes in your logo or website with the changing of trends. As time goes on, you will have to write down new ideas. Storage for these new ideas can be kept in: a computer, tablet, phone, or a paper file. The tenth and file step is knowing your boundaries and what is appropriate.

Other than, the steps to create a personal portfolio website, there are ten steps that make a portfolio website. The first step is creating a logo for your website. The logo is what the viewer first sees. It should be placed on the upper left corner on your website home page. Also, the logo should be a link to your home page. Your tagline is the second step. It is a brief summary of what you do. The third step is your portfolio content. The images of your design content should be high quality images. Include a link to a live version of your site. It might be beneficial to show your clients or users your design process. Your site should include what services you can provide. Be specific and clear of what you can do. The fifth step is a page about you. Write details about your background. The more information you give to your viewers, the more they’ll trust you. In your about page include an image of what you look like. Also, include awards you have won. Contact information should be easy. Use a form and ask for specific information. The seventh step is writing a blog that shows that as a designer you know what you are talking about. A call to action button can be included in your site. The ninth step is showing links to your social networking websites. Make sure that the viewers know that they can follow you on those sites. They can be either Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Flickr. The tenth and final step is to be friendly and personal on your website.

One example of a strong professional logo is Papazian Jewelry Displays. The geometric center logo represents the details of what the company does. Since, the company designs jewelry stands the lines represents the blueprints of the design layouts.

Another example of a strong professional logo is Anakin Design Studios. On their site, they show two different logos. The logo on the home page is the triangle logo. This logo is a representation of the letter “A” in the branding name. The other logo is circle logo with the name of the brand and the simple triangle logo. The two logos represent what the brand identity is in a simplistic way.

There are multiple ways to design a website. Some designs appeal to a much darker tone or lightly colored design. A website should have at least four columns. The home page of your site can include an introductory block on the upper left portion of the page. As for alignment, it should not be right aligned. However, your website can be horizontal. Next, the navigation on the site can either be horizontal and centered or left aligned. Your site can have a search box. There are a variety of sizes that it can be. For the viewers of your website, it may be beneficial for them. Another element that can improve your website is by adding flash or JavaScript characteristics. The contact information page button should be in the header. The “about us” page should include images of the designer(s). A client page can be added. It can show who some of your clients are. Your website should include a service page. Clients will be able to understand more clearly of what you can do as a designer. The main portfolio page is a way to showcase your work and you can show your work process. Finally, the contact page should include your: email, phone number, and or your address.
